Singapore, April 25, 2018 – CASIO Singapore launched the latest G-SHOCK ‘Full Metal’ 5000 Series through a private event held at Supplies & Co., a multi-label street style retailer at Mandarin Gallery.
The series, which sees the iconic DW-5000C watch arriving in a full steel construction in gold or silver, gives the usually rugged G-SHOCK an elegant makeover.
The GMW-B5000TFG-9 (Gold) is a striking, ion-plated iteration that’s nothing short of a statement piece. The watch sports the 35th anniversary logo on its case back and will come in a special edition packaging. The GMW-B5000D-1 (Silver) represents the first watch in the 5000 series to receive a full metal construction, with its outer components made entirely out of stainless steel.
To complement the elegant appearance of the timepieces and yet pay tribute to their steely construction, Straatosphere erected a stainless-steel scaffold with the watches seemingly suspended in space, encased in contrasting metal frames. The display, a fascinating combination of ruggedness and sleekness, was complete with a hypnotic backdrop of motion graphics.
A highlight of the event was the presence of Mr. Kikuo Ibe, the creator and founder of the G-SHOCK. Through an animated presentation, Mr. Ibe talked guests through the ups and downs he faced in creating the G-SHOCK. The key takeaway message being, “Never give up”, a motto that he continues to abide by today.
Also in attendance were personalities from Singapore’s street scene including Mark “Mr Sabotage” Ong (founder of SBTG); street photographers such as Anton (@mellowedhigh) and Eejin (@parag0n); fashion designer Amos Yeo (AMOS ANANDA); and musicians Mean, Jasmine Sokko, Yung Raja and Fariz Jabba.
The event is a continuation of the ORIGINS campaign that runs through 2018, in celebration of the legacy of the G-SHOCK DW-5600 watch, the longest selling shock resistant model. The number 5600 is used only in the names of models that have inherited the DNA of the very first G-SHOCK among all the thousands that have succeeded it.
The G-SHOCK DW-5600, known for its square-faced design, has become synonymous with the idea of absolute toughness, from its protective bezel to its shock and water resistant qualities – creating a timepiece that’s tough to break.
The G-SHOCK ORIGINS campaign is conceptualized by Straatosphere in partnership with CASIO Singapore.
